The process
What a basement floors job involves
Basements start with moisture, not color. Before we quote, we look at the slab for efflorescence, damp spots and old adhesive from carpet or tile, and we test moisture so the system is matched to the vapor coming up through the concrete. Where readings call for it, a moisture-mitigating epoxy base coat goes down first; if a slab genuinely is not a candidate, we say so instead of coating over a problem.
From there the process mirrors a garage: diamond grinding to open the concrete, crack and joint repair, then the finish — a light flake blend, a solid color, or a hand-worked metallic pour — under a clear topcoat. Utility areas around the boiler, water heater and laundry get the same seamless finish, and on larger basements we can phase the work so belongings shuffle from one side to the other. Most residential basements take two to four days.
What moves the price
Basement pricing depends on square footage, how the room is laid out around posts, stairs and mechanicals, and how much surface preparation the slab needs — especially removing old adhesives or paint.
Moisture is the biggest variable: a slab that needs a vapor-mitigating base coat costs more than one that does not. The finish you choose — flake, solid color or metallic — is the other. We measure moisture during the estimate so the number you get already includes it.
For finished spaces many owners choose a metallic epoxy basement floor; for shops and utility areas a flake epoxy floor is the durable, forgiving choice. It pairs naturally with a garage floor coating. We finish basements from Casco and Standish to Falmouth and Auburn.

My basement gets damp. Can you still coat it?+
Usually, yes. We measure moisture first and spec a vapor-mitigating base coat when readings call for it. If a slab genuinely isn't a candidate, we'll tell you that instead of coating over a problem.
Is epoxy better than basement carpet or vinyl?+
For below-grade floors, almost always. It can't trap moisture underneath it, can't grow mold, and a wet-dry vac or mop is the whole maintenance plan.
Do I have to empty the whole basement?+
The work area needs to be clear, but on larger basements we can often phase the job in sections so you can shuffle belongings from one side to the other.
How long does a basement floor take?+
